When is my period "beginning"?

For the first two days of my period I am so light (barely spotting) that I hardly even need to use a panty liner, but then the third and fourth day I flow normally and then it dies down. So, my question is when do I count as my first day of my cycle? the first day I spot or the first day I flow? I'm trying to get pregnant (it's been 7 months now) and don't know when to determine for ovulation.

Answer:
Should be the first day you spot, you can go see a doctor if you are having trouble conceiving. I am using the website MyMonthlyCycles.com. You can track you're cycle for free and get email reminders to track things like weight and period. It gives you estimated times for ovulation, fertility, and next period based on your input. Good luck, it can be very frustrating I know.
The first day you see anything. My period used to be like that, spotty at first, then heavy for a few days, then spotty again.
Also, I didn't even worry about "when I was ovulating". Just enjoy sex and when you relax its easier for both you and your partner.
When it starts, that is the first day.

Also, look into a Basal body temp thermometer so that you can identify ovulation better. OPTs are good, but expensive.

good luck
~If you don't know the answer to this question (and if you are really looking for sincere help regarding your body, your health and medical information) on this site, you don't know enough to be thinking about having children.
I've heard you count the first day you see red discharge, not pink or brown or anything else. The amount doesn't matter. Have you tried the ovulation sticks? They worked 3 times for me, it took the guess work completely out of pinpointing ovulation, and with all three pregnancies occurred within 3 months of using the sticks. Before I used them we spent a year without success trying to conceive.
Good Luck!
when you pea lood
The first day of your cycle is the first day you see blood. If you aren't sure when you're ovulating, buy one of the 7 day ovulation kits, they work. Usually you are fertile 3 to 5 days before ovulation, so if you have 28 day cycles, you probably ovulate on the 14th day of your cycle. It's usually right between cycles. If your cycles are every 30 days, you probably ovulate on day 15 of your cycle etc... Start having sex every 36 to 48 hours about 4 days before the middle of your cycle and continue for a day or two after. There are signs of ovulation like slight raise in temp., clear mucus like egg white, and sometimes a rolling twinge in your ovary. I hope you conceive soon.:)
