Cycles and clomid?

My doctor is thinking of putting me on clomid. MY question is im only 24. What are the most common side affects you ladies have experienced? And also, my cycles are usually-25-26 days long, and bleed or 41/2 days, heavy at first then tapers off day three, Does and could clomid mess my cycle up?

Answer:
I took Clomid for a total of 7 months - I didnt know this at the time but apparently you shouldnt take it for more than 6 months at a time as it can cause nasty things like ovarian cancer if taken long term my Dr also didnt monitor me while I was taking it - when I run out of my prescription after 6 mohnths he sent me home with another 6 months worth and told me to come back when I had had my family (complete idiot!) I took it because I have PCOS and dont ovulate - however nobody bothered to check my hubby for any problems on his side - the Clomid did work for me - it made me ovulate but my hubby has problems on his side also, so there was no way it was going to help us fall pregnant we moved straight onto IVF - anyway onto your question I just wanted to point out that you should be closely monitored to make sure you are on the right dose and its doing what it should be doing and to get your partner checked if he hasnt already been as you may find the drug useless if he also has a problem on his side.

For the first few months I got a little dizziness and fairly stong period pains and headaches etc (the drug seems to mimic some pregnancy symptoms which is a bit of a cruel side effect) howver the longer you take it the worse my mood swings got - at its worse (about the 6th or 7th month) I got all emotional about my hubby not wanting any dinner (I didnt want any either but that didnt seem to come into it) I got all teary and sooky and drove us to a Chinese take-away and demanded he order something - he said he didnt want anything so I stormed back to the car waited for him to get in and then drove us home (driving very erratically) got in the house and started yelling and screaming at him bawlling my eyes out and then grabbed a plate and threw it at him frisby style at his head (luckily he ducked) now Im not normally anywhere tnear this erratic and certainly not violent but this drug did seem to play havoc with my emotions. (hence the get hubby tested before you go on it as you may not need to go through all this if its not going to help you anyway)

Having said all this I have a number of friends who have had several babies with Clomid so Im not saying you shouldnt use it - just be aware of what it can do to you.

I found this site VERY helpful when I was taking Clomid - I got a lot more info from here than I got from my original Dr http://www.pregnancy.org/phpbb2/viewforu...

Good luck with your ttc!
Okay, my experience was not nearly as dramatic as all that. I was only on it for 3 months. My cycles were very irregular to start with, and the medication actually regulated me at about 35 days (don't be surprised if yours lengthen, I hear that's common). The only side effect that I noticed was the hot flashes.
Your cycles sound regular though, so why does your doctor want to put you on this? Fertility medication is to stimulate your ovaries to release eggs. With regular cycles, your body should be doing this on its own. Make sure you have a GOOD explanation from your doc about what's wrong that has led him/her to this form of treatment.
