It's not necessary to "be regular" but if you are trying to track your cycle - it helps.

I have irregullar periods and it took me a year to get pregnant.
it is important to know when you are ovulating in order to have sex those days nobody prevent you from having sex all the other days but if you have sex the days you ovulate and still do not conceive then you can think of checking the fertility of both of you.i wish you the best.

When you ovulate you would want to have sex before during and after this time! Have sex every other day cause everyday will lower his sperm count!
See the the difference b/w irregular and regular periods is,
In regular periods ur ovulation will also be regular and u can easily be pregnant if u do sex at the time ur ovulation.(Ovulation takes place b/w 1 to 2 days)
In case of irregular periods where u don't know when ur periods is going to come, ur ovulation cycle is also unknown so its very difficult to become pregnant.
So if ur periods r regular try having intercourse during ur ovulation period. if ur have doubt in ur ovulation just buy an ovulation predictor kit to know ur cycles.
