Is a Multivitamin with 0.4mg of Folic Acid enough when trying to conceive?
Answer:
Better consult a doctor. He might give u more prenatal vitamins.
why dont you take prenatal multivitamins?
My doctor recommended I take 2 Flintstones vitamins (1 in the morning and 1 at night) because I can't take prenatals--they make me sick. She said that the Flintstones at that dosage have the recommended amount of folic acid. They each have 400 mg of folic acid, so doing the math, that's 800 mg a day. Based on that, 0.4 mg doesn't sound like enough.
0.4 mg Folic Acid is equal to 400 micrograms (mcg) which is the recommendation. I am TTC and my prenatal vitamins have 800 mcg so I don't think it would hurt to take a folic acid supplement. I started with 400 mcg supplement of folic acid and then I got my prenatals and they have 800 mcg.. So 800 mcg would probably be best. I think they are recommending 400 mcg/day to all women of childbearing age. Maybe when you're pregnant or actually TTC it's bumped up to 800 mcg..
