Well, I feel silly. I was going to give you the "What kind of shot do you mean?" answer, then I looked at the category. I realize that I am not qualified to answer questions about conception since the only conception I experienced was my own, and I don't know anything about that. I would suggest that if you are getting shots for this reason, then you really should discuss this with your doctor. If you are not consulting a doctor in this matter then...Oh my... You really, really, should.
I was on it for 6 years and was told it was effective immediately. I called a pharmacist 4 days after I received my first shot and they proceeded to tell me it is effective immediately. Use a condom for a couple of days if u are uncomfortable.

If so, then I believe it gradually becomes effective over the course of the first month, being fully effective after roughly one month. The shot must then be continued at regular intervals, depending on the type of birth control shot, in order to keep the effectiveness.
If I were you, I would definitely use condoms for at least the first month. I for one use condoms no matter what; .. I don't want no baby-mama-drama!

some take longer .. the hepitatius A shot comes in two doses .. one now, and one 6 months later. you don't get full effectiveness until the 2nd shot.
I think a birth control shot takes 2 weeks to a month, but it depends on what the shot was.
Call the pharmacist or call the doc's office. they can tell you that right over the phone. No biggie.
