I have been trying to conceive for almost a year now but to no avail?

If you've been on the pill for a long time it can take quite a while to conceive.
If your really concerned, speak to your GP.

You need a baby?? I have to wonder why you need a baby. Are you in a serious relationship? Married? Does your partner want a baby?? Okay now that all of those questions are out of the way, if you are serious about trying to conceive you can have your man tested,(sperm count) to make sure he isn't firing blanks. Then if everything is okay with him, you can have your self checked. They might do a Progesterone test, to see if you are ovulating. The also try the timing method. You find out when you are ovulating and have sex then, you should only have sex every other day for optimum results. There are some other tests they can run to see if maybe you have a problem in your uterus. Once they decide there are not problems then they might prescribe a Fertility drug. Of course I would recommend talking to your doctor, for more and better information. I've been trying for 5 years, so don't get to down, it could just not be your time yet!
People can be pretty harsh...I see.
It took me 2 1/2 yrs to get pregnant the first time and another two yrs the 2nd time. (every two yrs in dec to be exact)
Just let nature take it's course and try to relax about having a baby. I've found that if you just decide to say "say la vee" it will happen when it happens" then you will get pregnant before you know it.
