Has anyone had any luck with using metformin to get pregnant with PCOS?
Answer:
Hi there, I also have PCOS got diagnosed at 18 and now 28 yrs old and trying to get pregnant I am actually 21days late and had both neg blood and urine test. Its so hard when you want something so bad.. THE GOOD NEWS is, I have 3 friends that have pcos also and they used metformin and got pregnant right away. So, there is hope! Keep trying and I wish you so much luck. I see the ob next week for my fertility issues. I am in the same boat ! God bless
Two good friends have had positive results with metformin alone. I'm not pregnant yet, but it's likely that's due to my husband, who also has fertility concerns. With Meformin, I'm ovulating and having regular cycles. And even if I wasn't, I feel a thousand times better on the metformin than I did off of it, which is really nice.
As great as metformin is, and as much as it can restore ovulatory cycles in women with PCOS, the New England Journal of Medicine published a study this week that says that Clomid may have better fertilty outcomes than metformin for women with PCOS. You may want to consider talking to your doctor about using both-the metformin can treat some of the symptoms of PCOS, and help maintain better health by controlling blood sugar issues, and the related complications, and the Clomid to induce ovulation and help you get pregnant.
Good luck.
